CSIL and CSES produced three briefing papers that assessed the implementation of the Horizon 2020 framework programme regarding the priority part of Excellent science, Industrial leadership and Societal challenges from the perspective of the research and industry community. The paper on Excellent science specifically looked at the four different objectives funded– the European Research Council, Future and Emerging Technologies, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, and Research Infrastructures. It also discussed the participation of research and industry groups and assessed the implementation of the first two years (2014-16) of the Excellent Science Priority under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. The Industrial leadership paper investigated the different perceptions of participants from industry and research organisations. It looked at how changes introduced in H2020 have affected participation by various groups of beneficiaries and identifies achievements and implementation challenges in the thematic areas of ICT, ICT for health and SMEs. The Societal Challenges paper assessed the research and industry perspective on implementing the Societal Challenges priority within the Horizon 2020 framework programme, through the interaction with research and industry aspects of other parts of Horizon 2020 and other programmes. The three briefing papers have been integrated into the European Implementation Assessment edited by the Directorate-General for European Parliament Research Services.
